Through this course aims to educate and train for the management of audiovisual techniques applied to anthropological research, knowledge and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage.

This course will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on various issues:

  • The concept of Visual Anthropology and the process of developing an ethnographic documentary intended to optimize the quality of audiovisual records taken during the work of documentation of intangible heritage.
  • The concept of intangible assets primarily in the case of trades and knowledge through the Atlas project Intangible Heritage, and the craft of carpentry Ribera Nereo Shipyard in Malaga through its characters and through fieldwork on site, as well as safeguarding formulas carried out by them.

Introduction the techniques of documentary work, may be useful in his work documenting the intangible heritage.
The practical nature of the sessions, has been chosen to host a unique space (Astilleros Nereo, registered in the General Catalogue of the Andalusian Historical Heritage, a site of interest Ethnology), with the intention to perform in this space a series of sessions based practices ethnographic documentary filmmaking.

The program is structured around a series of theoretical sessions, which will be complemented by practical sessions in the afternoon, always having as object the preparation of a film documentary about the space in the conclusion of the course.

The sessions will address key technical and narrative aspects in the preparation of a film documentary

  1. Fieldwork and shooting script. From a theoretical introduction on the work process, students receive a brief talk by a representative of Astilleros Nereo, together with the documentation provided at the beginning of the course and conducting a tour of the shipyards, will enable us to develop a participatory manner a shooting script on this singular space.
  2. documentary interview techniques. From practical examples, examine some of the essential aspects to take into account when conducting an interview for a documentary audiovisual. That same day, the students developed a questionnaire and carry out a series of interviews with some of the traditional shipyard workers.
  3. Settings and use of equipment documentary filmmaking. It will introduce students to the use of essential crew of a documentary, offering practical skills needed to become familiar with the use of camera and sound recording equipment.

The course ends with the completion of documentary practice in which students, in a participatory manner, conducted a series of interviews and recorded a set of sequences with the aim of make a short documentary on Astilleros Nereo.
After completing the course, teachers edited the footage and the resulting short film will be available for viewing on the website of the Instituto Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico.
